Outlook Username & Password Prompt

Description

Outlook prompting for password; This prompt can occur if the account becomes locked, if the password has expired, or if the password was recently changed.  Signing in to Microsoft for Authentication may also be needed.

Step 1: Restarting

Step 2: Clearing Credential Manager

  1. Close Outlook.
  2. Open Credential Manager (in the Windows Start Menu, start typing "Cred" and Credential Manager should show. It can also be found in Control Panel.)
  3. Under Windows Credentials, select and remove each credential.
  4. Restart the laptop/computer to completely remove the saved credential.
  5. Open Outlook.
  6. It is possible that you may be prompted one last time.  If so, then enter the information and close and re-open once more.

Step 3: Check security settings

  1. Go to File and click on Account Settings 
  2. Choose Account Settings 
  3. Double click their email account 
  4. Click the More Settings button. 
  5. Click the Security tab 
  6. Remove the check mark in "Always prompt for user name and password." 
  7. Click OK, Next and Finish.
