MS Outlook Emails in the Outbox

Tags Outbox email

Description

When sending emails they are getting stuck in the outbox. There are a few reasons why emails get stuck in the outbox:

  • Your email has an attachment that crosses the limit in size for sending emails
  • Outlook is set on Work Offline mode option
  • The Outlook account is not authenticated by the mail server

Resolution

  • Navigate to outlook, and find the folder called "Outbox"
    •  If there is a number in parenthesis next to the folder this would indicate that there are now one or more delayed emails waiting.
  • If there are items in the Outbox, the first thing that you will need to check is the network connection. You may need to restart your computer. Once connected to the network, your emails should then automatically leave the Outbox.
  • If you keep finding Outlook emails stuck in outbox one of the reasons why is that your email account doesn’t rhyme with the Outlook account password. So, if you changed the email address password, you will have to change the Outlook password too. Also, check if your email settings have set a rule to delay sending, as this will show Outlook emails stuck in outbox.

Note: The number stays there only until the server has sent the email successfully. Once the messages are actually sent, they will be copied to the Sent Items folder.
