Resolution/Troubleshooting

Black & White versus Color:

When printing from a Gannon owned computer (e.g. non Mac faculty, non Mac staff, computer labs) the default for the Print-N-Go print driver is Black and White printing.  This can be changed by selecting the Properties of the Print-N-Go print driver and changing the value under Xerox Black and White to Off (Use Document Color).  Note: Color printing costs 10 times the amount as Black and White printing so choose carefully.  Students note:  page detection is in place therefore pages that do not have Color on them will be charged at the Black and White rate regardless of the color setting.

When printing from a personal owned device (e.g. Gannon Macs, laptop, tablet, phone) using Mobility Print there are multiple Print-N-Go queues to choose from:

  • Print-N-Go (Erie Campus Black-White Print Queue)
  • Print-N-Go-Erie-Color (Erie Campus Color Print Queue)
  • Print-N-Go-Ruskin (Ruskin Campus Black-White Print Queue)
  • Print-N-Go-Ruskin-Color (Ruskin Campus Color Print Queue)

With Mobility Print the color option cannot be changed therefore choose the appropriate Print-N-Go queue.  Again page detection is in place therefore pages that do not have Color in them will be charged at the Black and White rate regardless of the queue selected.

In all instances make sure to release a Color print job at a printer that supports Color printing.

Duplex versus One-Sided:

When printing from a Gannon owned computer (e.g. non Mac faculty, non Mac staff, computer labs) the default for the Print-N-Go print driver is Duplex printing. This can be changed by selecting the Properties of the Print-N-Go print driver and changing the value under 2-Sided Printing. All of the Mobility Print queues default to Duplex.  Currently there is not an option to print One-sided. Optionally (i) students may visit a computer lab or (ii) consider printing one copy of the document and make additional One-sided copies at the machine if there is a need to print One-sided.

Stapling and Finishing Options:

When printing from a Gannon owned computer (e.g. non Mac faculty, non Mac staff, computer labs) the default for the Print-N-Go print driver is NO stapling. This can be changed by selecting the Properties of the Print-N-Go print driver and changing the value under Finishing. All of the Mobility Print queues default to NO stapling. Currently there is not an option to finish with staples. Optionally (i) students may visit a computer lab or (ii) consider printing one copy of the document and make additional copies at the machine finishing with staples.

Speciality Paper Sizes, Types and Weights:

Please reference the attached document which illustrates how to print on specialty paper sizes, types and weights to MPS printers.  (e.g. Legal, Letterhead, Envelopes, Card Stock, etc.)  The basic premise is that selecting paper trays is no longer the proper method to print various sizes and types.  Instead when paper is loaded into the print device the size and type are specified on the print device, then upon printing the print size and type are specified on the print driver.  When the two settings match jobs print seamlessly.

Optionally
please call the ComDoc Services and Supplies phone number (800.321.4846) and have ready the unique identifying asset number that is printer on the ComDoc asset tag-sticker. (number beginning with an “9”)  This asset number identifies to ComDoc the print device make, model, features, service history and exact physical location.  Explain your speciality printing issue and ComDoc will provide instructional assistance.

Paper weights that are supported vary depending on the model and tray option.  Estimates are as follows:

  • Document feeders support 13lb to 32lb paper
  • Bypass trays support 16lb to 80lb paper

Please consider using the Gannon Press for your speciality printing needs.
