Microsoft 365 Email Setup on Mobile Device

ITS provides limited support beyond setting up email on devices. User might run into problems if they are using the native mail app (i.e. the mail app that comes already installed on to your smart phone). With the variety of mobile devices and apps these instructions could vary, especially with android devices. ITS recommends using the Outlook app.


Resolution/Troubleshooting 

The easiest way to to get email set up since the migration to Microsoft 365 on a phone or tablet is to remove the account set up per the instructions below in case you are already signed in. Then set up the Microsoft Authenticator App before re-adding the account, so it can properly authentic your account. Click here to visit our KB with instructions on how to set up the Microsoft. Removing account :

Removing Account from Outlook App - Both Google Playstore or Apple's App Store: Removing Account from Android Native Email App Removing Account from iPhone Native Email App:
  1. Open the Outlook App.
  2. Tap on your initials at the top left side of the screen.
  3. At the very bottom left, click the gear/cog icon.
  4. Tap on email account to remove.
  5. Click "Delete Account".
  1. Open Android Settings.
  2. Tap "Cloud and Accounts".
  3. Tap "Accounts".
  4. Tap email account to remove.
  5. Tap "Remove Account".
  1. Open iPhone Settings.
  2. Tap "Passwords & Accounts".
  3. Tap on email account to remove.
  4. Click "Delete Account".

Re-adding account:

Adding Email to Outlook App from Google Playstore or Apple' App Store: Adding Email to iPhone Email App: Adding email to Android Email App:
  1. Open Outlook App.
  2. Tap "Add Account".
  3. Enter Email address.
  4. Tap "Continue" (you will be taken to Microsoft sign in page).
  5. Enter Password.
  6. Tap "Done" on keyboard or "Sign in" button.
  7. When it shows "Account added"
    1. Tap "Skip".
  1. Open iPhone Settings.
  2. Tap "Passwords & Accounts".
  3. Tap "Add Account".
  4. Tap "Exchange".
  5. Enter Email Address and Description, then tap "Next".
  6. On pop up that shows, tap "Signin".
  7. Enter Password
  8. Tap "Next".
  9. Tap "Save".
  1. Open the email app.
  2. Set up email by tapping "Exchange".
  3. Enter Gannon email address and password.
  4. Tap "Done" on the keyboard ot "Sign in" at the bottom right.
  5. Tap to "Apply" Security Settings.
  6. Adjust any preferred settings.
  7. Tap "Done".
  8. Tap "Activate" for Device Administrator (must be done to complete setup).

Having problems?

Email not updating or received an email about account being blocked on your devices native mail app, give the instructions below a try.

Android Native mail app:

Go to your email account settings and remove the account. Install the Microsoft Authenticator App, then re-add the account once it is set up.

iPhone Native mail app:

Click Settings Mail > Accounts select your Gannon account > select "re-enter your password".

Outlook app:

Open the Outlook App > Tap on your initials at the top left side of the screen > At the very bottom left, click thegear/cog icon > select the account under "mail accounts" > click "delete account" > close the app and reopen, thensign back in. If that if that did not work, uninstall the app and re-install.
