Slow WiFi Connection

Description

Is your WiFi slow or unstable? Try switching from 2.4 to 5, or 5.1 GHz can improve the connection on your device.


More Information

  • Not all devices can change what GHz you connect with, and each device can be a little different. Below are the instructions for Windows laptops and PlayStation 4.

Resolution/Troubleshooting

Laptop - Windows:

  1. Right-click the Windows Start Menu, or use the Win + X keyboard shortcut and select 'Device Manager'
  2. Expand the Network adapters list.
  3. Right-click the Wi-Fi adapter > Properties
    •  Open the Advanced tab
    • Set Property to Band or Preferred band. This option can have a different name depending on the adapter producer.
  • Select 'Hardware Properties'
  • Check what the “Network Band” is listed as.
    • Use the drop-down menu below Value and select 5GHz.
      • Select 'OK'

Note: The adapter will disconnect and reconnect using the 5Ghz band. If it does not show as 5GHz you may have to manually disconnect from GUWireless and reconnect in your network settings.

PlayStation 4:

  1. Go to Settings > Network > Setup Internet Connection > Use Wi-Fi > Easy
  2. Next, press the Options button > select 'Wi-Fi Frequency Bands'
  3. Select '5GHz' 
    • Only if listed, and press "X"
