Windows S Mode: Can’t Connect to GU Wireless

Description

S Mode is a more limited, locked-down Windows operating system. In S Mode, you can only install apps from the Store and you can only browse the web with Microsoft Edge If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode and you will not be able to return to S mode.


More Information

  • You have to be able to download applications from outside the Microsoft Store in order to be able to run FortiNAC to connect to the Wi-Fi on campus.

Resolution/Troubleshooting 

  1. OpenSettings”
  2. Select Update & Security”
  3. Select “Activation”
  4. Click on the “Go to the Microsoft Store” link under the Switch to Windows 10 section on the right side.
  5. Click on the "Get: button on the Switch out of S mode page in the Microsoft Store app.  Note:  Only a personal email can be used with Appstore - not a Gannon email.
  6. Click on the Install button when ready to start switching out of S mode.
  7. You will then see a message “You’re running Windows 10- S mode Switch and you’re all set!”

If you go back the Activation page, it should show “Edition Windows 10 Home”.

Note: Restarting the computer is not required.
