More Information
- A MAC address (sometimes referred to as a hardware or physical address), is a unique, 12-character alphanumeric attribute that is used to identify individual electronic devices on a network.
- An example of a MAC address is: 00-B0-D0-63-C2-26.
Instructions:
MacOS:
- Open: "System Preferences"
- Select: "Network"
- Select: "Wi-Fi or Ethernet
- Select: "Advanced" on MacOS 13+ you will need to select "Details" next to the network name
- Select: "Hardware" (MAC Address example format: c9:d0:34:95:0d:57)
Note: MacOS Ventura 13 and higher, "System Preferences" was replaced with "System Settings"
Windows:
- Open a Command Prompt:
- Press the Windows key + X and select: Command Prompt
- Type (without quotes): "ipconfig /all"
- Under "Wireless LAN Adapter Wi-Fi": The 12-digit number beside "Physical Address" is the laptop's MAC address (Example: 6D-54-12-23-45-AB)
Note: For the Ethernet MAC address, look under "Ethernet adapter" > "Physical Address" (Example: 6D-54-12-23-45-AB)
